The surprise engagement comes on the heels of a romantic trip to Mexico Garth and Abrams enjoyed last week.
Garth, whose eyes were red and watery, brought her three daughters (Luca, Lola and Fiona) from her previous marriage to Twilight star Peter Facinelli on the vacation, which coincided with her birthday.
An insider told E! that Abrams, seen here, "had been working on this for months, and really wanted to plan something special for her around her birthday and make it perfect."
