At a party earlier this month, Princess Beatrice decided to playfully "knight" singer James Blunt with a sword that evening, but didn't realize Sheeran was directly behind her .

When she went to swing the sword backwards, the 28-year-old princess struck Sheeran, 25, on the cheek — barely missing his eye.

"He could have been blinded," a source told The Mirror. "Beatrice was deeply upset and inconsolable."

Sheeran immediately left the Royal Lodge in Windsor, home of the Duke of York, and was taken to the hospital where his cheek was patched up with what appeared to be stitches.

His visible wound didn't seem to bother him, though, as he was later spotted attending a gig the next night.

He even snapped photos with fans, showing off his gruesome blow to the face. Sheeran's reps have yet to comment on the royal dinner party incident.
