Robertson admitted to having doubts about joining the dancing competition show. “Being on Dancing with the Stars was the biggest thing I’d ever done – and the most fear producing. But it didn’t stay that way,” she wrote.
The southern reality star said DWTS staffers did not hesitate to point out her flaws. “The people at Dancing with the Stars said to me many times, ‘Sadie, you’ve got to stop saying so all the time. Just try to not say so so much, okay?”
The experience also opened her eyes into how “fickle” people can be, she said. “My experience during the first two weeks of Dancing with the Stars was my introduction to that truth, but now that I’ve learned it, it’s been a fact of life for me for quite a while,” she wrote.
Robertson revealed that she didn’t understand her identity during the season. “I had to get rid of all the unhealthy things I was holding onto,” she wrote.
The teen, crippled with fear at the time, revealed to readers that she had to step away from social media in order to protect herself. “For example, I got someone else to run my Twitter account and I never read comments online or in the media.”
Robertson, paired with professional partner, Mark Ballas, revealed they did not agree on things. For example, she never wanted to ask fans to vote for her – and this turned Ballas against her.
“This made Mark really mad,” Robertson wrote. “He didn’t really understand my approach, but once he saw the joy in my heart after Alfonso won, he got it.”
The TV star also confessed that she never went on the ABC show with a drive to win. “Choosing not to go hard after the mirror ball helped me in my decision making about a lot of things, because it really didn’t matter if I ‘won’ or not,” she wrote.
