Maria Lopez and Karina Smirnoff had instant chemistry when they were paired up during the third season of the show. But they split up in 2008. "It felt like the world came to an end for a second," Smirnoff said after the breakup. "I hit the ground, and I couldn't get up." She became engaged to another DWTS-er, Maks Chmerkovskiy in 2009, but they split nine months later.
Cheryl Burke and Antonio Sabato Jr. had explosive chemistry in Season 19. But she had a boyfriend and he was married, and they insisted they kept their relationship strictly professional.
Bachelor Chris Soules was engaged to Whitney Bischoff when he appeared on DWTS, but sparks with his partner Whitney Carson were undeniable. After his fiancée failed to show up for the contest twice rumors swirled that they were breaking up.
Burke was also embroiled in a cheating scandal with married Drew Lachey during the 2006 season. "They didn't go very far to cover it up," Star magazine reported. Both Burke and Lachey strongly denied that anything inappropriate had occurred.
