Glee’s Jane Lynch came out to her parents when she was 32.

"I was distanced from my parents," the Dolton, Illinois native said recently on Chelsea Lately. "And I felt very, very separate from them.”

Lynch says her therapist told her to write a letter to her folks, but that she wouldn't have to send it.

“So I wrote them a letter pouring my heart out,” Lynch, 51, said – but there was one twist: "They (her therapist) give you a stamp and an envelope after you write it!”

hris Colfer plays flamboyant student Kurt Hummel on Fox’s hit show Glee, and just like his character, in real life, he is openly gay.

Colfer – who won a Golden Globe and has been nominated for two Emmys for his role - was named to Time magazine's 2011 list of the world's 100 most influential people.

David Hyde Pierce: This talented actor, a four-time Emmy winner, played Dr. Niles Crane on the smash hit spin-off Frazier. The New York native came out in 2007, a year before he’d tie the knot with partner Brian Hargrove in California.

Gillian Anderson: David Duchovny’s not the only X-Files star whose sex life has been made public knowledge: “I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school,” Anderson told OUT. “You know, I’m old enough that I can talk about that.”

Mario Cantone: The Broadway funnyman, best known for his portrayal of as Anthony in Sex and the City, wed Jerry Dixon, his partner of 20 years, in October 2011. In March of 2012, he spoke out against Kirk Cameron’s anti-gay sentiments, saying on The View, “Kiss my a** Kirk Cameron!”

White Collar’s Matt Bomer announced he’s gay in February 2012 at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards in Palm Springs, as he accepted the New Generation Arts and Activism Award for his charity work against HIV/AIDS. In his speech, the father-of-three thanked his partner, publicist Simon Halls.

Meredith Baxter: The Family Ties star, who played mom Elyse Keaton on the 80s NBC hit, came out as a lesbian in 2009, telling the Today Show: "I am a lesbian and it was a later-in-life recognition. Some people would say, well, you're living a lie and, you know, the truth is - not at all. This has only been for the past seven years."

CNN host Anderson Cooper confirmed years of speculation in July, 2012 about his sexuality, saying: “The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud."

On July 4th, 2012 R&B singer Frank Ocean blogged that his first romantic relationship was with a man, writing, "I don't have any secrets I need to keep anymore."
