An oil painting of Reynolds riding a horse while holding a dog took center stage on the altar.
The church altar also featured two screens that read, “In loving memory, Burt Reynolds,” a second photo of Reynolds and flowers.
Loved ones comforted each other as they prepared to say goodbye to the Smokey and the Bandit actor. Ex-girlfriend Sally Field was also in attendance, as she snuck in through the side door.
The ceremony, which began at 10am, kicked off with a welcome and opening prayer by Kevin Mahoney. Close friend Mo Mustaine then delivered a recollection of Reynolds’ life.
Todd Vittum, who worked with Reynolds on one of his final performances in The Last Movie Star, then delivered a eulogy. Avery Sommers performed “Amazing Grace.” The funeral ended with a message of hope and closing prayer.
The family requested donations are made to Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission, INC. Burt Reynolds Scholarship fund in lieu of flowers.
The service will be followed by a larger celebration, which will be open to the public.
As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, Reynolds’ former girlfriend Ann Scurry, 82, claimed his family plans to scatter his ashes at sea. Reynolds passed away on September 6 from cardiac arrest at 82.
