Former Bachelor star, Michael Nance of Emily Maynard's season has died at just 31 years old. But long before his short-lived reality show fame, he'd faced serious struggles.
Nance joined Maynard's season of The Bachelorette in 2012 hoping to find love.
But Nance was booted off the show in week 4 of the Bachelorette when all of the contestants took a trip to Bermuda.
Nance was an aspiring musician based in Houston, Texas. Before appearing on Emily's season of the Bachelorette, he had been giving guitar lessons to the blind. He has a personal youtube channel dedicated to his music.
Nance studied biomedical science at Texas A&M University, graduating in 2008. He went on to work as a rehab counselor where he counseled men in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, according to his Linkedin.
Nance last described his occupation as a sales rep at Zimmer Biomet — a publicly traded medical device company.
On the show, Nance admitted to being a recovering prescription drug addict.
“I was addicted to prescription drugs,” he said. “It’s a vicious cycle … I’m almost two years sober now.”
He posted this photo on his Instagram, March of this year, with the caption " You are."
In 2016, it appears he had found love with a Newport Beach woman. He held a residency at Newport for the past couple years.
Former Bachelorette star, Emily Maynard released a statement on Twitter in light of his death:
"So sad waking up to the news about Michael Nance. Such a kind heart with so much talent. Sending prayers and love to his family and friends."

Nance was found dead Monday night around 2:00 AM. Austin Police are still investigating the cause of death. Here he is pictured with his beloved dog, Mia.
