Two-year-old Kyrian Knox was found dismembered in Garfield Park Lagoon near Chicago after disappearing on September 17. But he appeared to be a happy toddler in photos family members posted before his death.
Knox, 2, was reported missing from Rockford, IL on Sept. 17, according to Chicago police. His mom, 24-year-old Lanisha Knox, reportedly left the boy with family friends.
A few days earlier, on September 5, someone spotted two tiny feet and hands floating in the Garfield park Lagoon. Over the next two days, additional remains were found. The torso is still undiscovered.

DNA from the mysterious remains was collected, and eventually matched with Knox.
The toddler's family was heartbroken by the news.
"My heart is hurting right now," his grandmother, Cameshia Harris, told the Chicago Tribune. "The family is together and we are trying to wrap our minds over it."
Knox was supposedly last seen by his family in August but not reported missing until mid-Septemer, Patrick Hoey, Assistant Deputy Chief of Police in Rockford, Illinois, told People magazine.
Although the Garfield Park Lagoon mystery is one step closer to being solved, police still don't now how Knox died.
Once a cause of death is determined, criminal investigations might take place. No one has been charged in the case.
