In early 2015, Rachael Forrakh was close to death, weighing just 40 pounds.

After making a desperate call for help through a GoFundMe page, Forrakh has made an inspiring recovery, raising nearly $200,000 towards her treatment.

Treatments took place in San Diego and Portugal, where Farrokh began gaining weight and building muscle again.

According to her doctor, Farrokh’s mental recovery has been quick, and she feels hopeful.

"I was finally treated with respect," Farrokh recently told NBC Southern California. "I didn't know that I deserved it."
