'The View' Host Whoopi Goldberg Blasted As Anti-Semitic After Claiming Holocaust Was 'Not About Race'
Whoopi Goldberg is in hot water for comments she made about the Holocaust. The 66-year-old The View host is being called anti-Semitic for insisting that the genocide of European Jews during World War II "was not about race."
Her controversial spew went down on the ABC show Monday, in which she claimed the Holocaust was actually an example of "man's inhumanity to man."
Whoopi's unpopular opinion did not sit well with her co-stars.
"If you're going to do this, then let's be truthful about it," Whoopi stated, sparking the heated debate. "Because the Holocaust isn't about race. No, it's not about race."
"It's about man's inhumanity to man," she continued. "That's what it's about."
That prompted a vicious response from her co-star Anna Navarro. "Well, it's about white supremacy. That's what it's about. It's about going after Jews and gypsies," she stated.
Sensing hesitation, Whoopi didn't back off, but instead, doubled down. "But these are two groups of white people," she said, attempting to explain her side.
"But you're missing the point. The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let's talk about it for what it is. It's how people treat each other. It's a problem. It doesn't matter if you're Black or white, because Black, white, Jews... everybody eats each other," she continued.
Her co-stars sat there in shock, softly making it clear that they didn't quite agree. However, the internet isn't as polite, and Twitter users are slamming Whoopi.
"Whoopi Goldberg explaining that the Holocaust wasn't about race because these were "two groups of white people" isn't just insipid, it's insidious. It's downplaying the minority status of Jews in order to uphold bullshit intersectional arguments that justify anti-Semitism today," Ben Shapiro wrote.
"1. Repeating something does not make it true. 2. The Holocaust was about race. 3. Whoopi Goldberg is the same person who defended Mel Gibson after recordings of his anti-semitic and racist rants were posted online," added another.
Others are calling on the network to take action.
"@WhoopiGoldberg Your are the epitome of a racist POS. How the hell do you still have a job as your continued anti Semitic views are spewed from your Pie Hole. And I quote “The Holocaust isn’t about race” “No, It’s not about race”. Take a moment periodically and think b4 u SPEAK," added someone else.
