A 39-year-old Tennessee man named Tyson Gilbert has been arrested after reportedly cutting off his own penis and throwing it out of the window during a police chase.
According to Complex, Gilbert reportedly cut off his own penis and threw it out of the window of his Honda Accord while trying to drive away from the police on Wednesday. The outlet claims the incident initially started because he was parked on a highway and was blocking traffic. When police arrived and tried to pull him over, he ultimately sped away from the scene.
"When I pulled up behind him and turned my lights on, he took off and refused to stop. He was all over the road the whole time," Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper Bobby Johnson said after the bizarre incident on Wednesday. "He turned off on Old Liberty Road and came to a stop. He opened his door. He was naked and covered in blood. He then shut his door and kept driving."
After Gilbert initially sped away from the police, the chase reportedly stretched through two Tennessee counties. Then, at some point during the chase, Gilbert cut off his own genitalia.
"The Alexandria Police Department spiked him on Highway 70 as he was going through Alexandria," Johnson said after the incident. "He kept traveling westbound into Wilson County. The THP spiked him in Watertown, but he continued westbound.”
“We finally were able to box him in and got him stopped on Highway 70 right before the Interstate at I-40 and took him in custody. He was then transported to Vanderbilt Hospital,” the trooper added.
The Alexandria Police Department reportedly confirmed some of the details regarding the incident, saying Gilbert was receiving treatment for his self-inflicted wound. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but the alleged suspect reportedly has active warrants against him for unspecified offenses.
According to authorities, Gilbert allegedly said he cut off his own penis because he heard voices from his car radio telling him to do it and “save the world.”
