UPDATE 2:45 p.m.

Law enforcement sources told CNN that they recovered a gun and high-capacity magazines at the scene of the subway shooting.

Two people said they believe the gun jammed during the shooting.

UPDATE: 12:44 p.m.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams released a video statement in the shooting's aftermath. He posted the video on social media.

"We're praying for all New Yorkers injured on effected by today's attack," Adams said. Later he added, "As of now we have not found any live explosive devices, but the suspect in today's attack detonated smoke bombs to cause havoc."

UPDATE: 12:18 p.m.

NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell described the suspect as a Black man who was 5-feet-5-inches tall. He was heavy set and wore a green construction vest over a grey, hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information on the shooting or who sees the suspect is asked to contact police.

"This person is on the loose this person is dangerous," Gov. Kathy Hochul said.

UPDATE: 12:15 p.m.

FDNY officials said 16 people were injured in the incident. Ten of the people had gunshot wounds and five were in critical, but stable condition.

UPDATE: 12:11 p.m.

NYPD Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said the department is not investigating the incident as an act of terror. She stressed there were no explosive devices in other parts of the subway system.

“Although this was a violent incident, reportedly, we have no one with life-threatening injuries,” she said.

Reports indicate, along with emergency radio traffic, that the shooting started at the 25th station stop and ended at the 36th station in Brooklyn.

Spokesman for Mayor Eric Adams released a statement about the incident.

"While we gather more information, we ask New Yorkers to stay away from this area for their safety and so that first responders can help those in need and investigate," Fabien Levy posted on social media.

White House Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said President Joe Biden has been informed about the incident.

"@POTUS has been briefed on the latest developments regarding the New York City subway shooting. White House senior staff are in touch with Mayor Adams and Police Commissioner Sewell to offer any assistance as needed," she posted on social media.

UPDATE: 10:09 a.m.

The New York City Fire Department said 13 were injured in the attack, but there was no further details, according to The Associated Press.

New York City police officials said multiple people shot thought there are no active explosive devices. Any witnesses are asked to call (800) 577-TIPS.

Terror hit New York City on Tuesday morning as a gunman opened fire in Brooklyn subway station, leaving scores of bloodied bodies on the platform.

A manhunt is underway for the suspect who was wearing construction gear and a gas mask during the attack, according to The Associated Press.

The attack happened at the 36th Street station in the Sunset Park neighborhood of Brooklyn during the busy morning commute.

Several people were injured in the attack and officials have not confirmed any fatalities.

At least one unexploded explosive was found at the scene, according to reports.

Social media was filled with pictures of the scene as injured people lay strewn across the platform. Smoke filled the area as uninjured people tried to provide aid to their fellow commuters.
