Markle has explored a European business collaboration with Princess Eugenie, sources claim..

Prince Harry, 41, has traditionally enjoyed a close relationship with his cousin, who lives in Portugal with her husband Jack Brooksbank, 40, and their family – close to where the Sussexes are said to have acquired a vacation property.

A source familiar with the situation claimed: "Meghan may understandably see Eugenie as somebody with whom she has a genuine personal connection and who also understands the extraordinary pressures surrounding royal life.

"But friendship is very different from attaching yourself publicly to somebody else's commercial operation. Eugenie has strong reasons to keep those two worlds separate, and her lack of support when the Sussexes come back to Britain is likely to be seen as a complete betrayal from Meghan's point of view."

Insiders have claimed Markle has discussed ways she and Eugenie could collaborate in Europe, potentially capitalizing on their families' proximity.

But insiders believe any expectation of a public partnership risks disappointment.

Princess Eugenie is said to have hesitated to risk public backlash by joining a Sussex venture.

Eugenie has maintained a relationship with Harry and Markle ever since they departed from royal duties in 2020.

She appeared in the couple's Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan and visited them in California, demonstrating a closeness that survived the wider breakdown between the Sussexes and the Royal Family.

However, sources now told us Eugenie's circumstances make a commercial alliance considerably more complicated.

Her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, 66, has endured years of controversy following scrutiny of his relationship with convicted s-- offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Eugenie and her sister Princess Beatrice, 38, have consequently faced intense attention despite not being implicated in their father's conduct.

A royal source claimed: "Eugenie has worked hard to maintain her own life while dealing with circumstances surrounding her father that she did not create. The last thing she needs is another wave of headlines suggesting she has chosen a side in the Sussex dispute or is using her royal connections commercially. A private friendship with Meghan can continue perfectly well without becoming a business partnership."

Princess Eugenie previously visited Harry and Meghan at their home in California.

Another insider noted: "If Eugenie decides against doing anything publicly with Meghan, it shouldn't necessarily be interpreted as the end of their friendship. But Meghan could regard it as disappointing because Eugenie has been among the royals most consistently warm toward the Sussexes.

"The message would effectively be that reconciliation and family relationships are one thing, while commercial ventures are another."

Harry's relationship with Eugenie has historically remained warmer than his relationship with other senior royals, particularly Prince William, 44.

For Eugenie, insiders said preserving that family connection privately may ultimately take precedence over transforming it into a public partnership.
