Mary J. Blige Not Being Paid A Dime For Super Bowl Halftime Show, Claims 'It's The Opportunity Of A Lifetime'
Mary J. Blige revealed that she isn’t being paid a cent for her upcoming Super Bowl halftime show performance, despite the broadcast expected to be viewed by over 100 million people and expected to be the number one most-watched events in the country.
During an interview posted to The Jasmine Brand’s Instagram on Thursday, the 51-year-old singer and actress revealed that she isn’t being paid for her upcoming halftime show performance. Yet, she isn’t the only one not being paid, because she also revealed that no artist gets paid when they perform during the Super Bowl’s intermission.
But, despite not earning even a dime for her upcoming performance – in which she is set to share the Super Bowl stage with the likes of Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, and Eminem – the Family Affair singer shared that she isn’t worried about not being compensated for Sunday’s gig, because it is “the opportunity of a lifetime.”
“They always say you don’t get paid to do the Super Bowl, is that what’s happening? It’s just a major look, right?” the interviewer asks the singer in Thursday’s clip.

“I mean, listen, you’re going to be paid for the rest of your life off of this. People are going to be knocking at your door,” Blige responds. “They don’t have to pay me…but if they were paying, it’d be a lot of money.”
“But I’m good…This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” she continues.
The Be Without You singer’s comments regarding not being paid for her upcoming performance come just one day after she appeared on Good Morning America Wednesday and ensured the audience that Sunday’s halftime show is set to be “the most epic thing in music.”
“Man, this thing is the most epic thing in music, like in hip-hop, R&B history, this is — man, L.A. is never ever gonna be the same,” Blige said during the morning talk show. “I watched the rehearsals — watching each person’s performance, I had goosebumps watching it.”
“Just know this: It’s some history, man,” she added. “It’s a celebration how far you know hip-hop has come, how far R&B has come…music and our culture.”
