La La Anthony Says She Was Single 'For Years' Before Pulling Plug On 15-Year Marriage With NBA Star Carmelo Anthony
La La Anthony considered herself single "years" before she ever decided to end her 15-year marriage with NBA star Carmelo Anthony.
The 39-year-old Power actress spoke out for the first time about her decision to file for divorce. Opening up about the painful topic on The Angie Martinez Show, Kim Kardashian's best friend got candid about leaving Carmelo for good.
La La filed for divorce from the 37-year-old Los Angeles Lakers player in June despite their marriage was on-again, off-again for years.
Because of their complicated relationship, La La says she thought of herself as "single for years."
"It's been years now," she explained to Angie. "To a lot of people, it feels like this single thing is new. Like, it's been years now that we've separated and stuff, so I've dealt with the emotions behind it and everything."
Revealing she "still has her moments," La La continued, "For the most part, I can talk about it now and laugh about it, and find the humor in it all. Otherwise, I'd be a basket case — I already went through that part."

When asked how she coped with her decision to move forward with their divorce, La La said it wasn't easy, mostly because she was in the public eye.
"I was bad because it was public. I was bad because there were other people involved. I was bad because there were allegations. It got bad. ... That s--- hit me really hard," she responded, referring to the rumors that Carmelo had not been faithful during their marriage.
According to La La, many people were surprised to hear that she was blindsided by the allegations of infidelity because of who her husband was. This included one lawyer whom she contacted for legal advice.
"And it came out of nowhere, it wasn't expected. I've heard so many times, even a lawyer said once, 'Well, he's a basketball player, what did you expect?' I'm like, to be honest, I didn't expect that. I didn't go into this marriage expecting that. So I was caught off guard," she said.
La La also revealed that therapy got her through the mess. Now, she and Carmelo have a peaceful co-parenting situation.
The actress and NBA star tied the knot in 2010. They first split in April 2017 only to reconcile the following year. In July 2019, they revealed they were living apart.
La La and Carmelo share one child — their14-year-old son named Kiyan.
