King Charles' Meltdown: Monarch Snaps at Page Boy at Opening of Parliament
King Charles III may be a modern, constitutional monarch, but he has the temper "of Henry VIII," according to one X commenter. This insight comes after a video picked up the sovereign apparently snapping at a young page boy who was trying to adjust His Majesty's thick state robes in the July heat while he sat on the British throne. This immediately follows another livid moment from HM on Monday, July 15, when he barked at aides to help fix Queen Camilla's coat.
This was the King's second State Opening of Parliament as the British monarch, which he attended with his Queen. In a ceremony stretching back some 700 years, the pair left Buckingham Palace in a full-state procession straight out of a medieval painting.
They arrived at the Sovereign's Entrance at the Palace of Westminster, where both were fully dressed in ceremonial robes. His Majesty wore the Imperial State Crown and Her Majesty continued a queenly tradition by wearing the King George IV State Diadem, which the late Queen Elizabeth II always wore to the occasion. The elected government wrote the speech, with Sir Keir Starmer presiding over his first State Opening as Britain's prime minister, who is the head of government to the King's head of state.
The page boy kept fiddling with the robe made for King Edward VII's coronation in 1902, which caused the monarch to jerk the stately cloak and shake it to alert the page to drape it over the arm of the throne. This follows numerous obnoxious instances since His Majesty's accession to the throne upon Elizabeth II's death, on September 8, 2022.
His kingly temper first surfaced with a pen during his Accession Council in September 2022, and then it returned when it came to aides trying to fasten Queen Camilla's coat! During a Monday, July 15, visit to the Channel Islands, Her Majesty's overcoat suffered a malfunction, which led His Majesty to shout at aides: "Come and help her!" lip-reader Jacqui Press dished.
The monarch could be heard telling his consort to "move your arm through the back" of the jacket sleeve. The King can be seen getting more flustered by the second when motioning to his court of assistants to fix the issue.

Later during the visit, Her Majesty was eating ice cream, and the next moment she was being whisked away due to a security threat. This threat came only two days after former President Donald Trump was nearly assassinated in the United States. Royal protection officers never revealed the concern in question, but it did turn out to thankfully be a "false alarm."
