Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann was placed on suicide watch after being locked up in a Long Island jail in mid-July, and now authorities are giving an update to that status, RadarOnline.com has learned.
Heuermann, 59, has been charged with the murders of three of the so-called Gilgo 4 — the women found dead on Long Island’s Gilgo Beach in December 2010 — and he is also the prime suspect in the death of the fourth, as Front Page Detectives previously reported.
On Aug. 14, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office announced that the Gilgo Beach murder suspect has been taken off suicide watch at the Long Island jail.
"Mental health staff at the jail have made the determination to remove Rex Heuermann from suicide watch at this time," Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr. said in a statement. "He will continue to be evaluated periodically. His housing and security protocols have not changed."
Heuermann has been charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Amber Costello, 27, and Megan Waterman, 22.
He is also the prime suspect in the death of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, 25.
As Front Page Detectives previously reported, officials in Las Vegas are investigating five unsolved murders that could be linked to Heuermann.

Heuermann has pleaded not guilty and faces life in prison without parole if convicted.
He is still under investigation in Suffolk County and elsewhere in connection with unsolved murder cases that may fit a pattern, Front Page Detectives reported.
