Ghislaine Maxwell is being investigated by Scotland Yard over claims she trafficked young girls.
Jeffrey Epstein's former girlfriend -- who is currently in prison -- has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and more charges that stem from allegations she allegedly groomed four underage girls for him to abuse between 1994 and 2004.
According to Channel 4 News, an investigation has uncovered more than six young girls and women in the UK who alleged to have been targeted, groomed, and abused by Maxwell and Epstein.
Some of the alleged victims have reportedly come forward to give their chilling accounts of what happened, with some including serious sexual assault and rape, reports the outlet.
The Metropolitan police said they will always look into new allegations.
Nazir Afzal, the former chief prosecutor for north-west England, told Channel 4 News there's more evidence than ever against Maxwell.
"From what I’ve seen, there is clearly enough evidence for the police to investigate more thoroughly than they have done up to now," Afzal said.
The Metropolitan police service released a statement, making it clear they will always look into allegations of sexual assault.
“The MPS is clear that it will investigate allegations where there is sufficient evidence of an offence having taken place, where it is the appropriate authority to do so and where those against whom the allegations are made are alive," the force said.
“The MPS stands by the statement by Commander Alex Murray issued at the end of 2019. This confirmed that the MPS had received an allegation of non-recent trafficking for sexual exploitation against a US national, Jeffrey Epstein, and a British woman in 2015 relating to events outside of the UK and an allegation of trafficking to central London in March 2001."
“Officers assessed the available evidence, interviewed the complainant and obtained early investigative advice from the Crown Prosecution Service," they continued. "However, following the legal advice, it was clear that any investigation into human trafficking would be largely focused on activities and relationships outside the UK.”
Maxwell is currently locked up in a New York prison awaiting her sex-trafficking trial. Epstein took his own life in prison back in 2009.
