A California man could spend the rest of his life in prison after he was sentenced in the stabbing death of his father, RadarOnline.com has learned.

According to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, James Shade, 32, was sentenced to 26 years to life in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, as Front Page Detectives reported.

On May 18, a jury found Shade guilty of first-degree murder of his father and that he used a deadly weapon in commission of the murder.

On March 14, 2021, deputies from the Roseville Police Department responded to a call regarding a stabbing victim, who reportedly walked to his neighbor’s house and cried for help before passing away on their front porch.

Police found documents at the victim’s house that listed the name of the defendant and indicated that the suspect was the victim’s son, James Shade, KRCR-TV reported.

Shade’s vehicle was also found to be fleeing the scene on surveillance video. He was later arrested at his home in Paradise by police.

Witnesses testified during the trial that Shade had made prior threats to his father in the years and weeks before he murdered him.

They also mentioned prior instances in which he was violent with his father, KRCR-TV reported.

Shade testified that he drove from Paradise to his father’s house in Roseville because he was serving his father with a restraining order while armed with a knife.

He claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed his father.

However, the court found the crime to be specifically troubling due to Shade inflicting over 20 stab wounds on the victim – by a knife the victim gave to his son weeks before the murder took place.

Deputy Director Attorney Anna Duffy said Shade’s “lack of remorse has been particularly disturbing” and “he showed no signs of remorse immediately after killing his father, during his testimony at trial and in statements he made after the jury rendered its verdict. His anger toward his father did not in any way justify his decision to brutally end another human’s life.”
