A 95-year-old woman in Australia was tasered by police at her aged care home in Cooma after she approached them using her walker and armed with a steak knife, RadarOnline.com has learned.

Police were called to the scene and officials say Nowland was still armed with the knife when they arrived.

Officers tried to negotiate with Nowland to drop the knife before she started to walk towards them with the knife in hand.

She was using the aid of her walker and was approaching officers at a “slow pace,” News.com.au reported.

She refused to drop the knife, and one of the cops discharged his taser and struck the victim, causing her to fall and hit her head.

According to News.com.au, her family is by her side at the hospital and she is “in and out of consciousness.”

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter Cotter told reporters the investigation into the incident is being taken seriously, but he would not say if the officer who discharged the taser would be charged.

“I am not the investigator, I’m not in the position to talk about whether this officer will or will not face criminal charges,” Cotter said.

Cotter noted the investigation is “very alive," He added that the body cam footage was “confronting” and it was not in the public interest to share that video.

The officer who discharged the taser will not be coming into work while the investigation is underway and his “duty status” is under review by the police force, officials said.
