From arthritis patients to those battling cancer, CBD has made a safe abode for all those who wish to seek shelter from the barrage of illness! But it isn’t only for psychological and pain relief that CBD is revered for. It has many goodies for the skin as well!
But before we jump in, let us understand What CBD is and how CBD products are good for skin.
What Is CBD?
CBD or cannabidiol is one of the active substances that you’ll find when you extract it from marijuana and hemp seed plant. As a matter of fact, CBD is one of only hundreds of such “Cannabinoids” that is present in cannabis plants. These include THC, terpenes, flavonoids and many more! All these cannabinoids help boosts each other’s properties which results in the plethora of benefits that you get to see CBD accomplish. So many that CBDs side effects pale in comparison!
The rumor around the block is that CBD consumption can cause you to get “high”. If ever a rumor could be false, it would never be as false as this! CBD is a non-psychoactive substance, meaning it can’t cause the effects of intoxication. The side effects of feeling giddy and disoriented when taking in marijuana is kudos to a substance called THC. THC or tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive substance, which is the sole reason for the sense of euphoria!
How Does CBD Work Its Magic?
CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is found in all mammals. The CBD interacts with the neuron receptors in the ECS namely CB1 and CB2 to cause a host of positive CBD benefits, which include calmness, anxiety and pain relief, and inflammation control among many others.
What Is CBD Salve?
CBD salve contrast lotion much in the same way waxes contrasts creams. Moisturizers and creams contain water along with the moisturizing agent. Salves and balms on the other hand use fatty oils as a base, without any water. This causes it to be pasty in texture. CBD salves are apt for use in localized pains and muscle soreness. It is simply rubbed onto the skin. Easy as that!
What Does The CBD Salve Comprise Of?
It is made with either Bees wax, vegetable wax which makes up the wax part. The bees wax is thick, sticky and a hard substance that smoothens out. Vegetable waxes are used with intention for it to be purely vegan. In most cases, pure bees wax is the preferred choice.
The oil part of the mixture is responsible to convey the drug in the salve. Coconut and hemp seed oil being the preferred choice. The more the amount of fatty acids the oil has, the better it will infuse the CBD properties and convey it to the target site!
Difference Between CBD Oil And CBD Salve
The idea of taking CBD oil is for fast and quick relief. CBD oil can be taken in the forms inhalation, sublingually or by means of edibles. The first two methods immediately administer CBD into the bloodstream, without the need for first-pass metabolism through the liver. The problem with this method however is the short duration of effect. In case of vaping or smoke inhalation, the onset of effect is quick, but it last for only 1-1.5 hours. If you were to take CBD by vaping expecting longer duration then you’d be wrong. If you suffer from insomnia or headaches this method is not apt. CBD salve on the other hand is applied to the area needed. This could be either the joint where inflammation is occurring or you could even apply it on your temples to help sooth a raging cluster headache or migraine! CBD salves, unlike CBD lotions are not apt for application on the face for treating acne, psoriasis and eczema. CBD salve can however be smoothened using an oil and applied on problem sites like large acnes, as it is rich in vitamin E and vitamin B complexes, that slow down aging and help retain youthfulness.
The plus point of applying CBD salve is that it is long lasting (Well beyond 6 hours) so if you want a continuous supply of CBD to your system, then this is the perfect option.
All in all, depending on your requirement, use the CBD which best compliments and fights your ailments!
