Halle Bailey made history when it was announced that the R&B singer would become the first African American to play the role of Ariel in the upcoming live action remake of The Little Mermaid.
Now, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal tragic details from the budding 19-year-old singer and actress’s childhood before fame.
According to shocking court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Halle’s father, Douglas Bailey, was once arrested and charged with multiple criminal charges stemming from a violent incident that took place at the family’s Georgia home.
In November 2007, the state of Georgia charged Douglas, 49, with two counts of family violence battery, simple battery, disorderly conduct and cruelty to children in the third degree.
According to prosecutors, Douglas was accused of “intentionally causing visible bodily harm” to his wife – and Halle’s mother – Courtney Bailey.
A criminal arrest warrant accused Douglas of punching Halle’s mother “in the face numerous times” on September 29, 2007.
In addition to the battery charges, Douglas was charged with disorderly conduct because he allegedly acted “in a tumultuous manner” after placing his wife “in reasonable fear of her life, limb or health,” court records claimed.
After his lock-up, Douglas’s criminal case was put on hold for nine months so he could attend and complete a domestic violence intervention program. Additionally, the husband was ordered to have no contact with Halle’s mother at the time.

Upon completion of the domestic violence program, prosecutors dismissed the charges against Halle’s father.
As RadarOnline.com readers know, Halle and her older sister, Chloe, 21, skyrocketed to fame after the R&B duo that makes up Chloe X Halle shared their talents with the world by creating their own YouTube channel.
The young women caught the eyes of Beyonce, who signed the duo to her label.
Despite the alleged domestic dispute, Halle and Chloe appear to have a loving relationship with their dad. On June 16, the famous sisters wished Douglas a Happy Father’s Day.
“happy (sic) father’s day to our amazing dad,” the two captioned a photo on Instagram, adding, “we cherish you not only today but for the rest of our lives. Thank you for everything you’ve taught us about independence and our value as young women. we (sic) love you forever”
