Kacey Musgraves is a Billboard Music Awards nominee for Top Country Female Artist, but did fans know about her secret legal trouble before casting their vote? RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal the country singer was once sued for breach of contract, fraud and more in a bombshell lawsuit.
In court papers obtained from Dallas County Judicial District Court, Zodiac Spirits, LLC sued Musgraves, 30, and The Creative Studio on July 25, 2018 for damages exceeding $100,000 for breach of contract, common law fraud by non-disclosure and conspiracy to commit common law fraud by non-disclosure.
“Defendant Musgraves contracted with Plaintiff to promote and endorse Plaintiff’s product, Zodiac Vodka, as brand ambassador through various means, including without limitation, personal appearances by Defendant Musgraves at brand events held in Texas,” the complaint read.
In late 2015 through 2016, Zodiac allegedly began to express concerns regarding Musgraves’ “level of commitment” in promoting the Zodiac brand.
“As of December 2015, Zodiac had spent over $3 million between Defendant Musgraves and Defendant TCS, with little to show for it beyond the initial launch,” the court papers read.
Breach of the agreement by the "Golden Hour" singer has allegedly included failure to support Zodiac cocktail video by promoting across all of Musgraves’ social media accounts, failure to promote video created to showcase the Nashville Zodiac brand launch party, failure to provide photos of Musgraves celebrating with Zodiac brand at her birthday, failure to appear in a video New Year’s toast with the Zodiac Brand product, and more.

“Zodiac made several attempts in 2016 to address its concerns with both Defendant Musgraves and Defendant TCS,” the filing claimed. “Rather than committing themselves to undertake actions designed to promote the Zodiac brand and enhance the value of the brand, both Defendant Musgraves and Defendant TCS demanded payment of monies from Zodiac.”
Zodiac terminated its endorsement agreement with the songstress in March 2016.
Her alleged refusal to adhere to the contract caused the company to “suffer damage” and cause a “2-year setback in Zodiac’s marketing efforts, negatively impacting sales of Zodiac Vodka as well as efforts to raise capital.”
The case was settled on September 17, 2018.
