Former Australian Idol contestant Kate Cook was found dead one day after going missing near her home, RadarOnline.com has learned.
The Sydney Morning Herald was first to report the news, stating that the 36-year-old’s body was discovered by authorities in a wooded area near her Lowood, Queensland house on Monday, March 4.
According to Nine.com.au, Cook’s friends reported her disappearance on Sunday, March 3, telling authorities they were worried about her mental state. Regardless, police are not treating her death as suspicious.
In 2009, Cook captivated Idol audiences with her dreamy guitar skills, cheery personality and musical talent. Behind the scenes, however, her life was plagued by tragedy and heartbreak. Viewers were brought to tears when she sang a song she wrote titled “Make You Stay” about her mother who committed suicide when she was just a teen.
After leaving the show, Cook found success in the country music industry, but struggled with keeping herself motivated without the same supportive network that got her through Idol.
Her cause of death has yet to be revealed.
R.I.P. Kate Cook.
