'Being Sober Is Going To Help Mike's Situation': Inside Jailed 'Jersey Shore' Star's Lonely Days
Jan. 23 2019, Updated 12:44 p.m. ET
Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino celebrated three years sober one month before checking into FCI Otisville in New York, where the Jersey Shore star is now serving an eight month sentence for tax evasion.
And although he won't be able to attend any official recovery meetings while locked up, federal prison consultant Dan Wise told RadarOnline.com "being sober is going to help Mike's situation a lot."
"Federal prisons have a few resources for those who are sober and in recovery. The BOP offers a non-residential drug and alcohol program through their psychology department and they meet once a week for 40 weeks."
"So while he won't really have any A.A. meetings, he will have that option. He could also create his own meeting with a few other of the prisoners who are also sober."
As RadarOnline.com reported, Sorrentino's official release date is September 13, 2019. But he will likely be sent to a halfway house a few months before he's freed.
Wise claimed Sorrentino has his recovery to thank for the leniency.
"If Mike gets involved in the program that they do offer, they will receive a recommendation for maximum time at the halfway house. He is very lucky he got clean because it will help him tremendously in the end," Wise told RadarOnline.com.
The former hard-partying reality star — who married girlfriend Lauren Pesche on November 1 — will have 24 months of supervised release and 500 hours of community service to serve once he's released.
