Jan. 4 2019, Updated 9:50 a.m. ET
Amanda Knox, who famously spent four years in an Italian prison after being found guilty of murder, now finds herself having to face another personal hardship – the death of a beloved friend and family member.
“Our baby, Mr. Screams, was hit by a car and died the night of Christmas Eve,” Knox revealed on Instagram, referring to her cat. “We buried his body on Christmas morning.”
Knox, 31, says she and new fiancé Christopher Robinson are “utterly heartbroken” over the accident.

“He was the smartest, funniest, sweetest, cuddliest, most talkative and wonderful cat. We feel so lucky to have had him our lives.”
On his Instagram account, Robinson shared his own tribute.
“I've never had a friend like Mr. Screams,” Robinson wrote. “He insisted on cuddling me. He announced himself like Kramer when he ran into the room. He gave his meow of approval as I fell in love with (Knox). I can't believe he's gone.”
As RadarOnline.com reported, Knox and Robinson were still celebrating their recent engagement when the tragedy struck. Robinson proposed to her at home in Seattle in November – three years after Knox was cleared of murdering her roommate in Italy.
The couple met after she reviewed his book, and while she was engaged to someone else!
Now, their joy is put on hold, as they mourn Mr. Screams.
“He helped bring us together,” Knox reflected. “I wish I could hold him one last time. He was our baby, our little boy.”
