Mob Murder? Cops Believe Whitey Bulger Killed By Inmate With 'Mafia Ties'

James "Whitey" Bulger's shocking prison death may have been a murder committed by a fellow inmate with "mafia ties."

"The FBI will be conducting an investigation into the death of James Bulger. No other information will be released at this time," Stacy Bishop, a spokeswoman for William J. Powell, the US attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia, said in a statement on Tuesday.

An inmate with "mafia ties" is being investigated for Bulger's death at the US Penitentiary Hazelton, the Boston Globe reported.

The former mob boss, 89, was found "unresponsive" at 8:20 am this morning, a Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice' Federal Bureau of Prisons told RadarOnline.com.

"Life-saving measures were initiated immediately by responding staff," the spokesperson said. "Mr. Bulger was subsequently pronounced dead by the Preston County Medical Examiner."

"No staff or other inmates were injured, and at no time was the public in danger."

Bulger was serving a life sentence for murdering at least 11 people but had only been transferred to the prison on Monday, October 29, 2018.

In a prison letter exclusively obtained by RadarOnline.com, Bulger said he was subjected to "a form of torture called sleep deprivation" which caused him to suffer a mental and physical breakdown following his 2011 arrest after 16-year on the lam.

"No one could talk to me nor I to anyone — for the first four months," the tough guy griped. "(I was) stripped searched FIVE times a day.'
