Sean Penn Broken By Lack Of Privacy In High-Profile Marriage: 'He Was Mr. Madonna'
Madonna and Sean Penn's romance was doomed from the very start. Ever since they announced their quickie wedding in 1985, rumors began circling about the couple's alleged infidelity scandals, domestic abuse and endless lies.
Now, REELZ's new docuseries, Madonna & Sean Penn: Irreconcilable Differences, gives viewers an inside look into the stars' rocky love affair.
"Not only did not like the press, he didn't like the reason they were following him," says Naughtygossip.com founder, Rob Shuter, in the show teaser. "They were not following him because he won an Oscar, they were not following him because he'd made a great movie, they were following him because he was now Mr. Madonna."
Penn, 58, and Madonna, 60, got divorced four years later, but not before the actor became broken over the lack of privacy that came with their high-profile marriage.
"I think the press and the celebrities have a difficult relationship, but they need each other," says Shuter. "The celebrities need us, we need them, and often we can find a way to co-exist together. With Sean Penn this never happened."
