Geoffrey Owens Nabs 'NCIS: New Orleans' Gig After Working At Trader Joe's

Former The Cosby Show star Geoffrey Owens has landed a role on NCIS: New Orleans after RadarOnline.com broke the news that he was working as a cashier at Trader Joe's.

After the story of Owens' humble job went viral, he was hired by Tyler Perry to appear on the OWN TV series The Haves and the Have Nots for ten episodes in the show’s sixth season, which is about to start filming in Atlanta.

And now, Owens has also accepted another gig—on NCIS: New Orleans, playing Commander Adams, an old friend of Scott Bakula's character Pride who dispenses both medical and spiritual advice.

Fans can expect to see Owens in the sixth episode of NCIS: NO season 5, airing sometime in late October.

Executive producer Christoper Silber told Entertainment Weekly, “For Commander Adams, we needed someone with compassion, competence, and heart. That’s Geoffrey in a nutshell, an accomplished actor who seemed like the perfect fit to add to our extended repertory company. We’re lucky to have him on the show.”

Days after RadarOnline.com caught the former the Cosby Show star toiling at Trader Joe’s, new Hollywood work started pouring in for him.

On September 4, mogul Perry offered 57-year-old Owens a role on his TV show and gushed about the actor's can-do spirit.

"#GeoffreyOwens I’m about to start shootings OWN’s number one drama next week! Come join us!!! I have so much respect for people who hustle between gigs. The measure of a true artist," Perry, 48, tweeted.

The happy news comes after Owens went on Good Morning America to tell fans not to pity him for his situation.

“No one should feel sorry for me,” he insisted. “I’ve had a great life. I’ve had a great career. I’ve had a career that most actors would die for. So no one has to feel sorry for me. I’m doing fine!”

Owens worked at Trader Joe’s for 15 months, but said he had to quit over the recent attention.

He’s best known for playing Elvin Tibideaux on The Cosby Show, from 1985 to 1992. He has since appeared on a number of shows, including Divorce, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Built to Last.
