Son of Cher's Assistant Arrested For Battery & Grand Theft Auto Before Drug Bust
Before cops swarmed Cher's home and arrested house guest Donovan Andrew Ruiz, the son of her assistant, for allegedly selling drugs that led to a California resident's overdose death, the troubled 23-year-old was busted on battery and grand theft auto charges, RadarOnline.com can exclusively report.
According to Los Angeles court records obtained by Radar, Ruiz was arrested on Feb 22, 2017, and charged with battery the following month. He pleaded no contest, and was released on $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court for sentencing on December 10 of this year.
In 2014, he was arrested and charged for grand theft auto. He was sentenced to 36 months of probation, and spent one day in jail.
Last night, local authorities said Ruiz was allegedly involved in the sale of Fentanyl to residents of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
“Ruiz is suspected of being the source of supply of Fentanyl to many users in Ventura County,” Ventura County Sheriff’s officials said in a press release. "Fentanyl sold by Ruiz was eventually consumed by a victim in the city of Thousand Oaks, who later overdosed and died.”

Investigators with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Interagency Pharmaceuticals Crimes Unit and Thousand Oaks Police, who served the search warrant at Cher’s house on Thursday, September 27, seized evidence related to Ruiz’s alleged sales of illegal controlled substances.
Ruiz’s bail was set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear at Ventura Superior Court on Monday, October 1. for an arraignment.
The troubled man was allegedly living in Cher's mansion while the singer was touring Australia. She has yet to comment on the arrest.
