Demi Lovato's Near-Fatal Overdose Likely Triggered By Oxycodone Laced With Fentanyl

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Now that Demi Lovato is receiving treatment for her lifelong addiction problems, new details of her near-fatal overdose have been exposed.

According to a report, the "Sorry Not Sorry" singer texted a drug dealer to come to her home at around 4:00a.m. on July 24. At the time, she had been celebrating backup dancer and BFF Dani Vitale's birthday at Saddle Ranch in Los Angeles.

Lovato, 25, reportedly bought oxycodone form the dealer and smoked it from a piece of tin foil—a process referred to as freebasing. Adding even more risk to the already dangerous practice, it seems the drug was laced with fentanyl, a narcotic used to treat severe pain.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, fentanyl was the drug that famously killed Prince in what police described as an accidental overdose on April 21, 2016.

After ingesting the oxycodone inside her home, Lovato allegedly laid down on her bed and began breathing heavily. Noticing this, her drug dealer fled the scene, according to the report.

The person had been selling the star drugs since April, when she relapsed after six years of sobriety.

As RadarOnline.com previously reported, Lovato's staffer administered Narcan when she was unable to wake the singer up the next morning. EMTs soon arrived at the scene and rushed an unconscious Lovato to a nearby hospital.

Now, Lovato has agreed to received treatment. Just this week, she left her rehab facility and flew to Chicago with her mom. There, they will meet with a team of addiction specialists and doctors "that were very influential to her in early recovery."
