Kidnapping Survivor Elizabeth Smart Attempted To Save India Oxenberg From Sex Cult

Kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart attempted to save actress Catherine Oxenberg’s daughter India from the NXIVM sex cult, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.

In her shocking new tell-all, Captive: A Mother’s Crusade to Save Her Daughter from a Terrifying Cult, Catherine Oxenberg, 56, ripped the lid off of NXIVM’s sex slave ring known as DOS, and divulged how an allegedly abusive cult disguised itself as a mentoring group for women.

Catherine revealed the horrific changes she witnessed in her daughter’s demeanor since she began taking NXIVM leader Keith Raniere’s “Executive Success Program” courses back in 2011.

“She was showing signs of becoming secretive, distracted, and unreliable – showing up late for appointments or not helping out at home when she’d promised she would,” Catherine explained in the memoir.

By the fall of 2014, the concerned mother said her once “gentle, mild-mannered” daughter became an “Energizer Bunny missionary.”

Catherine’s multiple attempts to save her daughter from Raniere’s destructive authority failed. After learning that India was susceptible to a branding ritual conducted by Smallville actress Allison Mack and being coerced into having sex with Raniere, Smart stepped in to help.

“We made a plan for her to send an email to India asking if she needed support, explaining that, she, too had been a victim of media exposure and experienced many emotions that India might be going through,” Catherine divulged in the memoir.

The kidnapping survivor wrote a “wonderful, heartfelt” letter to India, Catherine wrote.

“But India never responded,” Catherine added.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, Smart, a Utah native, was raped and held captive for nine months by kidnappers Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee.

Earlier this year, Smart wrote in her own memoir that she believes rape is worse than murder.

Catherine said her daughter’s loyalty to the NXIVM cult became so extreme she tried conducting an intervention. When Catherine revealed to India that Raniere would one day be arrested for charges including racketeering and sex trafficking, India wasn’t phased.

Catherine said her daughter responded in denial, saying, “Lots of people do those things.”

India exclusively spoke to RadarOnline.com in May denying she had contact with her mom.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, a superseding indictment against Raniere, and his co-conspirators Allison Mack, Clare Bronfman, Nancy and Lauren Salzman and Kathy Russell was filed this week.

Catherine Oxenberg’s book will hit shelves in August.
