Alice Marie Johnson Thanks 'Angel' Kim Kardashian As She Leaves Prison
June 7 2018, Updated 9:50 a.m. ET
Alice Marie Johnson left prison after 21 years on Wednesday after President Donald Trump commuted her sentence following Kim Kardashian's plea.
"I feel like my life is starting over again," an emotional Johnson, 63, told reporters outside the prison, calling Kardashian, 37, "her angel," as CNN reported.
President Trump commuted the sentence of drug offender Johnson after Kardashian visited the White House to argue for her release.
As RadarOnline.com has reported, Johnson was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of drug conspiracy and money laundering.
After the commutation by Trump on Wednesday, Kardashian wrote, “BEST NEWS EVER!!!!” on Twitter.
Kardashian felt Johnson deserved to be freed and has long championed her cause. Johnson had fallen on hard times before her legal problems. She had been divorced, lost her job due to a gambling addiction, lost her house, and filed for bankruptcy; sadly, her son also was killed. Johnson then began working with drug dealers before being arrested.
After her June 6 release from prison, Johnson thanked both Kardashian and President Trump.
Johnson was reunited with family members on Wednesday night after a van transported her outside the prison.
It was a joyful scene as Johnson stepped out of the van and ran toward sobbing family members who greeted her with hugs and flowers.
Her daughter, Catina Johnson, told reporters she got a phone call from her mother: "My conversation with my mom consisted of this: 'Come and get me. It's time to go home!'"
"I'm just as shocked as anyone. I found out when everyone else found out," Catina said.
While Johnson was expected to be released soon, it was a surprise that she was sent home the very same day her sentence was commuted.
Kardashian's White House visit to advocate for Johnson came after her husband Kanye West, 40, shocked the public by declaring his love for Trump and wearing a MAGA hat.
