Natalie Wood's daughter Natasha Gregson Wagner has said her stepdad Robert Wagner didn't kill her mother.

In the wake of Robert being named a "person of interest" by Los Angeles police in connection with Wood's mysterious drowning death in 1981, an old interview with Natasha has resurfaced, as The Mirror has reported.

Actress Natasha, who was 11 when Natalie died at the age of 43, did the interview in 1997, but it is only now coming out.

Back then, she said, "I think there was a thorough investigation and I am completely satisfied.

"All I know is that nobody loved my mum more than my stepdad, so if he had heard anything he would have given his life for her. And that's a fact," Natasha confided.

Former West Side Story and Rebel Without a Cause star Natalie was on a yacht with her husband Robert and their pal, actor Christopher Walken, during a vacation in Catalina--but then she went missing. She was found drowned, wearing a red jacket and night dress.

For years, many have questioned the circumstances of her tragic death, and Robert, now 87, has come under suspicion.

Police say Wagner's account of his wife's drowning has often changed and does not add up with other witness accounts.

Natalie's sister, Lana Wood, has confronted Robert about the controversial drowning, and Radar got video of her dramatically calling him out in public.

The veteran actor has refused to speak to investigators.

However, in 1997, Natasha said about her stepdad, "We talk about Mum a lot. You know, what an amazing woman she was and how she would have really blossomed.

"The saddest part for me now is that we would have got on well and she would have got a lot of joy from me and my sister Courtney," said Natasha, now 47, who is married to Barry Watson.

"I'm sad she didn't live to see us beyond the ages of seven and 11."
