What Really Killed Her? Carrie Fisher’s Coroner Results Finally Exposed

Six months after Carrie Fisher was laid to rest, the coroner has just released the shocking details about what may have ultimately caused her untimely death.

According to the Los Angeles coroner officials — who released the new findings late on Friday, June 16 — the Star Wars actress died from “sleep apnea and other causes” — including atherosclerotic heart disease and “drug use.” The report went on to reveal that the late star had also taken multiple drugs prior to her death. However, it’s still unclear whether they contributed to her death in December.

Hours after the new evidence surfaced, brother Todd Fisher spoke to the Associated Press about the findings.

“We’re not enlightened,” he told the AP. “There’s nothing about this that is enlightening.

“I would tell you, from my perspective that there’s certainly no news that Carrie did drugs,” he continued. “I am not shocked that part of her health was affected by drugs.

The 59-year-old also admitted during the tell-all interview with the AP that her doctors were desperately trying to heal her of the mental health issues she had been suffering with since she was 24 — plus her smoking habit that she couldn’t kick.

“If you want to know what killed her, it’s all of it,” he added.

It wasn’t long after Carrie’s 24-year-old daughter, Billie Lourd, soon made a heartbreaking statement about the new report.

“My mom battled drug addiction and mental illness her entire life,” she told PEOPLE. “She ultimately died of it. She was purposefully open in all of her work about the social stigmas surrounding these diseases.” Adding, “I know my Mom, she’d want her death to encourage people to be open about their struggles.”

As RadarOnline.com reported, Fisher suffered a massive heart attack on a United Airlines Flight from London on Dec. 23, 2016, and was rushed to the hospital in L.A. upon landing, where she died nearly four days later.

The 60-year-old's death certificate was released by the L.A. County Department of Health and her cause of death was listed as “cardiac arrest/deferred,” which means it was likely a heart attack, but the final result had been pending until now.

Fisher’s beloved mother, Debbie Reynolds, passed away the day after she did, on December 28, 2016, after suffering from a stroke dealing with the grief of her daughter’s death.

The pair were buried together on January 6, 2017, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
