Teresa Guidice could find herself spending 50 years behind bars if she is found guilty of the 39 charges that have been filed against her and her husband Joe -- and the idea of their children being left with Melissa and Joe Gorga is terrifying to the couple, RadarOnline.com exclusively learned.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey star and her husband have been charged with tax evasion and fraud and both could be locked up if they’re found guilty.

“Teresa would rather die than let the kids go to Melissa,” the source told Radar.

“Teresa has been telling people that she isn’t going to go to jail because she has four kids, and that no judge would take a mother away from her children.”

Reports have been said that Teresa’s brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Melissa, might step up and take care of the kids if they’re both sentenced to prison -- but it's the last thing Teresa wants.

The source said Teresa is frantically trying to make sure she avoids jail for the sake of her daughters.

“Teresa doesn’t even know what she would do if she has to leave her kids without a parent, but she knows she doesn’t want her family to have them," the source said.

"She is terrified about what could happen to her family.”
