Why Did Kim Kardashian Stay In The Hospital So Long? Health Drama Behind Baby's Delivery
June 20 2013, Published 9:42 a.m. ET
Kim Kardashian has been getting a nice long rest in the hospital after giving birth to her daughter early Saturday but a health drama behind the delivery also has contributed to her stay.
Kim delivered her first child less than two hours after midnight at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center but was suffering from very high blood pressure, according to People magazine.
And as RadarOnline.com was first to report there was delivery room drama, with the reality star crying both tears of joy and pain. She rushed to the hospital Friday night, not feeling well.
The baby arrived weeks early and was placed in an incubator. Most non-celebrity moms would have already been discharged from the hospital, several experts say.
“Kim is a celebrity, so that’s one reason why she could be staying in the hospital a longer time,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “But there are other reasons as well.”
Kim’s high blood pressure concerned docs and they immediately checked to see if the baby was in distress. The decision was made not to try to delay delivery, as giving birth was the best option for mother and child.

With Kanye West by her side and momager Kris Jenner filming SOME of the drama (for family viewing only, we are told), the baby girl, whose name has not yet been announced, arrived at under five pounds and was put in an incubator.
Kim may have suffered from preeclampsia, People reported. The condition can be serious, as this definition from the Mayo Clinic points out:
Preeclampsia is defined as high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine after 20 weeks of pregnancy in a woman who previously had normal blood pressure. Even a slight increase in blood pressure may be a sign of preeclampsia. Left untreated, preeclampsia can lead to serious — even fatal — complications for both you and your baby.
If you have preeclampsia, the only cure is delivery of your baby.
The good news for Kim is she should be fine but the extended hospital stay indicates she needed a break at the very least. As RadarOnline.com reported exclusively she is having difficulty breast feeding.
While Kim gushed about her new baby to Ryan Seacrest, baby daddy Kanye has remained publicly silent.
