The plot thickens. Heidi Montag is believed to be staying at the Malibu home of Spencer Pratt’s good buddy Cougar Zank, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal.

Zank is a former Marine-turned-bodyguard and bit actor who befriended Pratt earlier this year. He moved into the house rented by Heidi and Spencer in Pacific Palisades, Calif., and appeared on a few episodes of The Hills. “He is helping me write a script,” Spencer told Life & Style magazine.

Heidi and Jennifer Bunney, another former Hills regular, announced in May their plans for a new project. “This is going to be the best summer of my life!!!!” Heidi Tweeted. “Heidi and I are moving into a Malibu beach house for the summer,” Jen told RadarOnline.com exclusively. “We’re really excited to do girly things and show people who we really are, that we’re really fun, sweet and loyal girls.”

She even suggested that the show would be about whether Heidi would become an “independent woman” or would stay with Spencer, who she said is expected to appear on the show.

When RadarOnline.com ran into Cougar at Heidi and Jennifer’s TV pad and asked what he was doing there, he responded: “this is MY house.”

Montag filed for legal separation from Spencer on June 8, but she raised eyebrows by doing it with a hand-written petition and without the representation of an attorney.

However, one of the most recent photographs taken of Spencer was of him jogging on a trail not far from this very same Malibu house.

Bunney has been out of town and shooting for the new show is expected to start in July.
