Joe seemed to be getting less and less tolerant of having Kailyn not only in his home but also in his bed and spent much of his time angry. "I'm sacrificing a lot to have her here" Joe yells at his parents. "It was her decision to make!"
But Joe's mother isn't buying his teenage reaction to this very adult problem. "She is the mother of your child and you are going to have to live with this for the rest of your life!" Janet yells at him.

Unfortunately, Kailyn didn't have as strong of a female role model. "If I had to rely on my mom, I'd be lost," she said about her unemployed mother who was living with her boyfriend in a hotel. "Since I had no where else to live his family invited me to move in with them."

Before Kaitlyn moved into her boyfriend's home, the young couple had talked about everything together but the pregnancy and living in the same bedroom changed things in unexpected ways. "We have days where we don't even talk at all," Kaitlyn tells her friend.
The young couple try to take time together and head out for a day of shopping in search of baggy cloths to hide Kailyn's pregnancy, but Joe doesn't quite understand the need to keep it a secret.
"I'm not ready to tell anyone yet...I wouldn't even know how to tell anybody." Kailyn tells Joe. But even the baggy cloths don't help and Kailyn is forced to face the truth when she sees the other kids' reactions to her changes. "Everyone is staring at me and whispering behind my back," she cries to Joe's mother Janet who comforts her.

As if Kailyn's life couldn't get more complicated, the father she hasn't seen since she was just a baby contacts her on Facebook and Kailyn flies to visit him in hopes of finding a father who will save her from all of this. But she is sadly disappointed by him and heads home immediately.
At home again, she tours the local community college campus and meets a girl who has a been through the dental hygiene program and has a baby. She
inspires Kailyn with her wisdom: "We have something in us as mothers that keeps us going."
Kailyn is finally able to see a brighter future. The next day her water breaks and she heads off to have the baby. After eleven hours of labor and an epidural the moment has arrived. "It's a boy," yells Joe who seems much happier after Isacc Elliot is born. But the pair have their work cut out for them with many sleepless nights and more arguments. Kailyn expresses her thoughts of what could have been.
"I think if I could go back, I wouldn't have had sex this early, I think I would have waited. I've had to plan my whole life, so I'm just waiting for things to get easier...I think there's a little light at the end of the tunnel, If I just keep working hard."
