Bravo's Top Chef continues to be a ratings giant and now the network is shifting gears and focusing on the sweeter side of cooking. This week, casting sessions for Top Chef: Just Desserts begin.
The spinoff, which will air in 2010, will focus on pastry chefs competing against one another. They will live together and face elimination each week just like on the original show. On Top Chef, the contestants have often made mistakes when called on to make sweet dishes instead of savory ones.
"Their Achilles heel is usually the desserts," Bravo VP-general manager Frances Berwick said of past Top Chef players. "As this has gone on, we've been thinking that it would be fun to do a 'Top Chef' with experienced pastry chefs. We've had a few pastry chefs on Top Chef, but they haven't gone too far. It's just a different skill."
No hosts or judges have been cast yet.
