In a search warrant affidavit released on Friday, Mayumi Heene admitted to sheriff’s deputies that the incident with her son Falcon and their wayward experimental balloon was a hoax the couple had concocted two weeks prior.
"Mayumi described that she and Richard Heene devised this hoax approximately two weeks earlier,” the papers stated. “She and Richard had instructed their three children to lie to authorities as well as the media regarding this hoax."
Mayumi, who recently hired her own attorney, also admitted that they knew Falcon was hiding in their home the entire time. The family may face charges including conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and making a false report to authorities.
