John Mayer was just feet away from a bloody stabbing in a New York City club Sunday morning, RadarOnline.com can exclusively report.

The incident occurred at approximately 3 AM at GoldBar in Manhattan's Little Italy neighborhood.

A man and a woman got into an altercation in the trendy nightspot, an eyewitness told us. "The woman then went screaming out of the club and bouncers rushed in."

The man had been stabbed in the stomach and there was blood everywhere, the source added.

John was seen leaving GoldBar at 3:12 AM.  He headed straight home.

Cops and paramedics arrived seconds later and by 3:19 AM, the victim was on a stretcher and on his way to a nearby hospital.

It is not yet known if the woman involved in the argument stabbed the man or if the assailant was another individual.

Mayer has been keeping a fairly (for him) low profile of late.

As RadarOnline.com exclusively revealed, he played a pivotal role in the break-up of his old girlfriend Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo in July.

He has not been seen with a regular date in months and it is not known if he was by himself in GoldBar or was with friends.

Mayer's reps have not responded to RadarOnline.com for comment.
