Move over Susan Boyle – there’s a new YouTube sensation coming out of British television. In just the past few days, more than a million people have logged onto the internet to see the jaw-dropping performance of 27-year old schoolteacher Danyl Johnson, who recently wowed the judges on the X-Factor, a British version of American Idol.

Johnson made his American television debut on Thursday, appearing on NBC’s Today Show. Johnson told hosts Matt Lauer and Ann Curry that his students encouraged him to audition.

When Lauer and Curry asked him about his newfound fame, he responded: “Where do you go from there... It’s been pretty mental!”

Johnson said his dream is to make records. “It’s pretty amazing. I’m just really having a good  time.”

After Johnson’s performance on X-Factor, judge Simon Cowell called it the best first audition he’d ever seen, and even leapt to his feet after his stirring rendition of the Beatles’ classic With A Little Help From My Friends.
