Emmy Awards – The Showdown

The Emmy nominations were announced yesterday and it wouldn’t be an awards show if there weren’t some surprises and snubs. We know you can’t please everyone, but it’s shocking that True Blood was shut out! Come on, it easily could have fit in the Best Comedy or Best Drama categories—though any die hard fan knows those vampires have some of the darkest and snarkiest wit around. Family Guy made history as the first animated series to ever get nominated for Best Comedy. And some shows that have already gone off to die in TV heaven are getting their due with Christina Applegate receiving a nom for Samantha Who and Kristin Chenoweth getting one for Pushing Daisies. Grey’s Anatomy stars Chandra Wilson and Sandra Oh face off in the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama category for the second year in a row. Interesting that Katherine Heigl isn’t there as she just confirmed that she’s definitely returning to the show in the fall. It was touch and go if she would renew her contract but she did and we have to say that Katherine really gave Emmy worthy performances this season. She slept with ghosts, battled cancer, married her true love . . . but, if you recall, Katherine did win two years ago . . . but pulled her name out of the running last year because she wasn’t happy with the storylines (or lack thereof) that the writers gave her. 30 Rock dominates with a whopping 172 nominations including Best Comedy series and noms for Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Jack McBrayer (yay!), Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski.. Will people finally start watching it now? Does this prove it’s a genius show? And, How I Met Your Mother finally gets its due with its first Best Comedy Series nomination. Could it be their lucky night since it’s star and Best Supporting Actor nominee Neil Patrick Harris is hosting the show?  You’ll just have to catch all the drama and find out who the big winners are on September 20th. In the meantime, here’s a list of the major categories for your reference!
