Robert Wagner may be a person of interest in the mysterious drowning death of Natalie Wood, but a family insider has exclusively revealed to RadarOnline.com that no one blames him for her passing!

Speaking of CBS's new special, Natalie Wood: Death in Dark Water, the insider said: "It's reprehensible that 48 Hours is continuing to try and paint RJ as a murderer."

They added that all of Robert Wagner's loved ones know there is "no way RJ ever pushed Natalie Wood in the water."

While investigators have reopened the decades-long case and are looking to get a final interview with Wagner, the family source said he "will NEVER talk to cops."

They told RadarOnline.com that police travelled to Aspen (where Wagner lives) as recently as last summer to try and interview him. "The cops want a deathbed confession, and it's just not going to happen because he had nothing to do with Natalie's death," continued the insider.

As RadarOnline.com readers know, Natalie Wood's tragic drowning occurred in 1981, after she went on a yacht trip with then-husband Robert Wagner and his best friend, Christopher Walken.

While Wagner never gave a clear answer to the media (or to Lana Wood) about his involvement in the death, the insider claimed that for the first time, the entire family is happy and reunited – they won't let a documentary ruin their lives so many years after the tragedy.

Courtney, Natasha, RJ & Jill St. John "are all getting along very, very well and are about to celebrate RJ's 89th birthday (February 10)," said the source. "They have all found peace after years of family dysfunction, and now have to deal with the CBS special."

The family source concluded her tell-all confession by saying that it's true "RJ should have called authorities sooner," but that is all he ever did wrong.
