Brad Pitt is doing his best to stay strong and sober, but RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned that the actor is having painful memories about his failed marriage with Angelina Jolie and his bad habits that led up to the implosion of his once happy home life.

"A lot of memories are surfacing now that he's out of the fog of his marriage and the drinking and smoking that he was doing during that time," an insider told RadarOnline.com.

"There's definitely an air about him like a soldier who has just been through a long war and has PTSD or something."

Recently, claimed the insider, the dad of six recalled a troubling accident.

In 2012, Pitt fell and injured his ACL. "I was carrying my daughter Vivienne down the hill and I slipped," Pitt said of the harrowing incident at the time. "It was either her or me."

Such memories are proving difficult to face for Pitt.

"He's staying clean but he has a ton of making up for lost time to do, especially with his kids and extended family," noted the insider.
