Wendy Williams shocked viewers last week when she had a tearful breakdown on her daytime talk show, sobbing that her 13-year-old son hates her, and now the mother-of-one is explaining exactly what caused the meltdown.

"I’m trying to discipline my son," Williams, 49, told Life & Style magazine.

"I don’t want to be his friend — I am his mother, and I am the boss."

During Williams' Jan. 20 sob-fest, the talk show host broke down after talking about Madonna and how close she is to her son, Rocco.

"What I discovered this weekend is that my son doesn’t like me anymore. You know how it is, I know what it is… Kevin, I discovered this a while ago, but the ball just got smacked home this weekend," she said through tears.

But Williams tells the magazine she will continue to lay her foot down with her son — who gave her a card the day after her show aired.

"I will not get lost in the pool of disrespect that I see coming from kids his age. He will not curse at me and he will never, ever roll his eyes!" she said.

"He made me a beautiful card and gave it to me the next day."

And like all mothers, Williams has no idea what the future holds for her son, Kevin Hunter Jr., but hopes it's bright.

"There’s no guarantee he’ll turn out right — but I’m doing what I think is right as his mom," Williams added.
