Actor Russell Crowe was the latest victim of an Internet death hoax, as the Gladiator star’s demise was falsely reported on Wikipedia on Thursday, RadarOnline.com has learned.

The New Zealand-born Oscar-winner’s page was restored shortly thereafter, and we’re happy to report he’s alive and well.

“As you may know, Wikipedia allows anyone to edit without creating an account. This leaves us open to a lot of vandalism, which is normally corrected with a few seconds by automated editing programs – Wikipedia grows by this ‘two steps forward, one step back’ process,” a rep for Wikipedia told RadarOnline.com. “In this case, you had the misfortune to view the page during the few seconds when a vandalised version was shown – this will occasionally happen, but waiting a few minutes and refreshing will normally fix the problem.”

Crowe is hardly the first celeb to be falsely reported as dead. Stars such as Twilight‘s Taylor Lautner, Kanye West, and Harrison Ford have all had phony obituaries published online.
