FACE OF REMORSE Imus
As nearly every media outlet has gone to great lengths to report, both MSNBC and CBS Radio have suspended talk-show host Don Imus for referring to the Rutgers women's basketball squad as a bunch of "nappy-headed hos." Did the punishment fit the crime? Below, a rundown of how other loud-mouthed idiots, past and present, have dealt with on-air snafus.
Doug "The Greaseman" Tracht
Crime: In 1985, during an on-air bit about Martin Luther King Day, Tracht remarked that "they should shoot four more of them and give us a whole week off." Later, in 1999, after the lynching of James Beard, Tracht responded to a Lauryn Hill song by declaring, "and they wonder why we drag them behind trucks."
Apology: In a faxed letter to the Washington Post, Tracht wrote, "In the course of my show, split-second judgment is made over ad-libs. This remark was a grave error in my judgment."
