It's been years since Richard Simmons has stepped into his famous exercise studio Slimmons in Los Angeles, and now he's posted a sad update about why he's shutting its doors for good.

"Some of you may have heard that Simmons will close next month," Simmons wrote on his Facebook on Oct. 21. "While it is true, it has been an amazing part of my life to teach, meet and support people from all over the world."

The 68-year-old went on to say, "I want to thank everyone who has come through those studio doors to laugh, cry and sweat with me! Remember to keep sweating', keep movin' and most importantly go out and Vote! Love Richard xo."

As RadarOnline.com exclusively reported, his Beverly Hills gym has been falling apart during it's dark days. "The studio needs him. It's in a sad state," an insider told RadarOnline.com about the studio that opened in 1974. "Attendance has dropped off, and when the place isn't locked shut, the instructors don't seem inspired. They walk around like zombies. The place needs a major makeover!"

An eyewitness visited the studio earlier this year to find a 1980s picture of Simmons face still hanging on a dusty wall and some videocassettes and yellowed posters of Simmons on display for sale. The tipster also noticed the air conditioner wasn't even working.

Despite his two-year absence from the spotlight, RadarOnline.com reported that Simmons was hospitalized in June. The star's long-time publicist Tom Estey told fans he was "fine" besides recovering from dehydration.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital," Simmons told ET. "I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great! Summer is here — drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring."
